KCC's 'Iliahi building increasingly continues to be an inhospitable learning environment for students and faculty members. Students and faculty members must endure an additional construction project for the duration of the fall semester. For the last two years, 'Iliahi has undergone non-stop renovations.

This month, the Office of Student Activities will be hosting seven different events. Some are new, while others are familiar to students. According to Alfie Gonzales, assistant coordinator of student activities, there are five remaining events for the month of February: 'Ohana Craft Fair (Monday, Feb.

Pull a weed, plant a seed

This semester, the garden behind the `Ohelo building will be overhauled in order for new plants to be grown. According to Josh Moore, garden manager, he volunteered at a student forum to maintain the garden. "Ron Takahashi, who is the department chair for the culinary program, asked at a meeting if anyone wanted to help out with the garden, so I was interested," said Moore.

While many people were lamenting the end of the traditional holiday season, having their fill of turkey, ham and mistletoe, there are countless others who are continuing their celebrations with Chinese New Year, held on Feb. 14. For a large number of families throughout the world, this 15-day celebration takes precedence over all other holidays.

KCC needs international students

The Hospitality and Tourism department at KCC has seen a rise in enrollment of international students over the last 10 years, according to Sheryl Fuchino-Nishida, associate professor and counselor in the department. In fact, enrollment of international students is up noticeably from just five years ago.

Apple unveils tablet mystery, the iPad

Just two weeks ago on Jan. 27, Apple announced the highly anticipated and rumored Apple Tablet called the iPad at their 'latest creation' event in the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco. The iPad is a tablet-like computer which runs off a touch screen, much like those tablet PCs whose screens swivel around to rest on top it's keyboard facing up built by HP or Fujitsu, minus the keyboard.

It was recently announced at Apple's "Latest Creation" event on Wednesday, Jan. 27 that a new product would soon be on the market and possibly in your hands - the iPad. The iPad is like a touch-screen computer with a starting price of $499. It features some rather impressive capabilities, like HD video, new layouts of common apps and up to 10 hours of battery life.
